May 22, 2007 Surgery Recap

Surgery went very well yesterday, and Hannah is resting comfortably. She went into surgery at noon and was out by 5:00. It was a case of best-case senerio. The surgeon was able to peel the tumor on the lymph node away from the pulmonary artery, and save her left lung. He also removed the tumor from the lower lobe of her left lung. Next step is recovery and then back to chemo for the next year. We will be meeting with her oncology team at some point to discuss the best treatment options for her.

Hannah had the usual post-surgery difficulties that she has had in the past. The biggest issue was keeping her blood pressure up. It had dropped at one point to 61/30. Through transfusions, fluid and medication, they were able to stabilize it and raise it to a much more acceptable level. She will be up and out of bed at some point today. I decided to leave that challenge to dad. I spent the night at the hospital last night and have come home to recharge my batteries. I see a nap in my near future.

We would like to thank everybody for all of their prayers and support. Thanks to Nathan, Uncle Jim, Pastor Mau, Marisa, Carolyn and Liz who came down to the hospital to sit with us, and keep Bill and I going. Thanks to Colin and Austin who held down the fort at home. And especially thanks to Hannah for being the wonderful person you have always been. We love you very much.
