We just found out this week that Hannah will be having surgery again at the end of July/beginning of August, this time on her right lung. The reason behind the surgery is that often, tumors that are small do not show up on a cat scan. The only way to make sure that her right lung is clear, is to go in and feel for tumors by touch. The surgery will be similar to the previous lung surgery, though the hope is that they will not have to remove any of the right lung.(and of course, hopefully she won’t have the flu again). The plan is for her to finish this week of chemo, which is her seventh cycle and then give her a month to get all of her blood counts high enough to do the surgery safely. After the surgery, she will receive at least two more cycles of chemo. This should take us into October. Hannah’s response to this news was that now she gets to go to camp for three sessions instead of two, since she has a break from chemo. Hannah and Austin attend a summer camp sponsered by Sloan Kettering for cancer patients and their siblings. It is a sleep over camp and this will be their fourth year attending. They both love it! Nathan will be a counselor this summer at the same camp. This Thursday is the Moving Up Ceremony for eighth graders, and Hannah has received permission to leave the hospital hooked up to her chemo and attend.
