Hannah left this past Monday for her second session at Happiness is Camping. Austin did not accompany her this time, because he is at Boy Scout Camp this week upstate in the Adirondack Mountains. He will be home on Saturday. I was told that by the second day there had already been 3 bears in the campsite. I certainly will be glad to see him home safe and sound. Hannah will be picked up on Friday.

Last session, Hannah did not make it until Friday without having to go back into the city for another bag of platelets. I took her on Wednesday, and drove her back to camp to finish out the session. This week, she had to go back to Sloan for a round of chemo. I got the day off from driving because Bill made the trip in to take her. Round trip to camp, Sloan, camp and back home is almost 300 miles. Luckily, Hannah and I figured out what exit Taco Bell is on going down Interstate 80, and she always seems to want tacos after a treatment. I will have to ask what they put in that IV fluid.

Both kids had a great time last week. They were tired, tan and talkative, until the car ride lulled them both to sleep about 15 minutes into the ride home. Nathan also looked good, and was looking forward to a weekend off to regroup for the next session. I believe he went to the beach with some of the other counselors. I was happy to see that his hair hadn’t changed from the last time I saw him. Colin “suffered” through the weekend of noise and dreamed about Monday, when peace and quiet would again reign supreme in the house.
