Welcome to the heat! It seems that this summer has been either too hot or too cold or too wet. We sure are hard to please. I was with Hannah all day yesterday. We spent the day at Sloan where she got one bag of platelets and 2 units of blood. I picked her up from camp around 1:00 on Sunday afternoon. The original plan was to pick her up late Sunday night to drive down to Sloan on Monday morning, but she just didn’t feel well, so she asked me to come earlier. I think the heat was wiping her out. By the time the transfusions were complete, she was like a new woman, and I drove her back to camp. Hopefully, she can make it to Friday before I have to take her back down. She will be coming home for the weekend along with Austin.
Speaking of Austin, I think he grew in the few days I hadn’t seen him. When he came up to me, I suddenly realized that he was almost looking me in the eye. I have to resign myself to being the shortest one in the family a little sooner than I anticipated. He is getting very tan and having a great time. He is the buddy this week to a boy who cannot see, and we are very proud of how he is helping this young man manoever around camp.
I also saw Nathan, I think. The reason I wasn’t sure is that this very tall person came up to me with his hair dyed bright blue. He looked like my son, but the hair kind of made me speechless, which is very hard to do. Over the weekend, camp had color wars, and he was on the blue team. He believes in really getting into the spirit of the thing. Evidently, the blue does not come out easily, so when I saw him again on Monday, he had shaved off his hair. I never know which Nathan I will see.
This was a red letter day for Colin. He joined the ranks of licensed drivers. I think the scariest words to a parent’s ears are the words, “Can I borrow your car?” His driver’s test was at 9:00 and he was back on the road by 10:00 Hopefully I will see him again some time today. Whether or not there will be gas in the car is another thing.
