I know, I know, you can hardly believe I’m posting. It has been a few months. Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great Christmas. We started back to school and work yesterday. Our family had a wonderful time off together. Even Nathan was home for Christmas this year. For Christmas, I had quilts made by a very dear friend for the boys, using many of Hannah’s favorite clothes. They came out beautifully, and now, it’s like the boys can feel Hannah wrapped around them keeping them safe and warm whenever they want.
Our family had such a nice Christmas. We always light a candle for Hannah on Christmas morning which we leave burning until we go to bed. We had fun opening gifts, and were joined by one of Nathan’s friends for the holiday. The only problem was when I took the turkey out of its wrapping, it appeared to have some spoilage on it, so... the entire turkey went in the garbage and I had to scrounge around in the freezer to see what I could thaw out quickly for Christmas dinner. We ended up with chicken and all the turkey fixings.
Nathan is on his way back to Africa at this moment. He is hoping to come back home for a few weeks in the beginning of April. He did not appreciate the cold of New York, after being in hot Africa. I actually got the boys out to shovel snow after our blizzard on the 26th, but only because we are now the proud owners of a snow blower. I’m guessing the novelty will wear off the the snow blower soon the same way it wore off the leaf blower.
An interesting thing happened that I don’t think I shared previously. A very few months after Hannah passed away, we received notification that her social security number had been stolen. We worked with the secret service in their identity theft program (her’s was not the only deceased child’s stolen), and finally after two years, the culprits have been arrested and one has already been found guilty. We were having trouble filing income tax for a few years because the thiefs were using the numbers to file for dependents on fraudulent income tax returns. Just one more thing that added to our sorrows.
Well tis the season of wishing for snow days, or at the very least, a school delay or two. Keep warm, and I will try to stick to my New Year’s resolution of updating the website at least once a month.
