Hannah and I (mom) went to Sloan Kettering last Thursday for Hannah’s monthly check-up. We were scheduled for a bone scan, chest x-ray and blood work. Results came back that there were not any changes from the previous month’s x-ray. Of course, we are estatic! We will go next month for a chest x-ray and blood work, and the following month (March) Hannah will have another cat scan. We did get some answers to some lingering questions that we had. We were not sure why Hannah was not having her mediport removed. The mediport is what is used for chemo, transfusions and IV antibiodics. Last time she finished treatment, they removed her port the following month. Hannah’s team would like to get one more cat scan to make sure there are not any changes to her lungs. This is the scan that will be done in March. They feel that if everything remains unchanged, her port can be removed. Hannah is also still on an antibiotic that she takes 3 days a week and has been taking since she began treatment over a year ago. Next month when we are at Sloan, they will check to see if all of the immunizations she had are still effective. If they are, the antibiotic will be discontinued. If not, she will need to be re-immunized. Sure sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Talking about fun, this week is midterm week at the high school. Study, study, study!
