December 18, 2006

Sorry it has taken me so long to get an update posted. We have been very busy as I’m sure everyone is this time of year. We had a great time at Sloan’s Christmas Party held at the Sony Wonder Technical Lab in the city for the pediatric patients and their families the first week of December. The highlight of the eventing was meeting Bruce Springsteen. The funny part of the evening was when all the moms were going crazy because he was there taking pictures and signing autographs, and the kids were all asking who the old man was. They sure have a subtle way of reminding us parents that we are not getting any younger. Last week was very stressful for us. We had 2 visits to Sloan, one scheduled and one unscheduled. The first one last Monday was Hannah’s regular check up with a chest x-ray and blood work. In drawing her blood, they were checking to see if her immune system was coming back. It probably won’t be back totally for 6 months. We have just hit the 4 month post chemo period. Her chest x-ray showed no change from the previous one. On Tuesday afternoon, Hannah was having chest pains. This put everyone into a tizzy, because of her previous heart problem in August. We went back down to the city on Wednesday, for a cat scan and echocardiogram. We were all convinced that she would be checking in, so we packed our bags, and she was not allowed to eat until mid-afternoon when the echo came back negative for fluid around the heart. The results of the cat scan showed no sign of pneumonia or bronchitis, and even better, no sign of cancer. This is so great since this month is the month she was first diagnosed 4 years ago and also the month she relapsed one year ago. It shall be an especially joyous Christmas for us this year. You are all probably wondering where the pictures from the fund raiser are, which I promised Bill would post. Remember that busy part I wrote at the first part of this update? When we do post them, we will include a picture of Hannah with that old man (The Boss, for all of us grownups). Enjoy the time leading up to the holiday. I know we will.
